Meeting Minutes

  • Closing the Gap Between Advertising and Public Relations, November 18, 1999
    • Bill Beggs from the Hughes Group talked about the public relations and advertising work he has done for suck groups as the American Association of Orthadontics and the Baseball with electronic speedometer.
  • Innitial Planning for Best Commercial's of the Century, November 4, 1999

  • Following the Advertising Track & Passing Portfolio Review, September 30, 1999
    • The MMC will now be the advertising agency for Student Affairs. We will get paid for our work, and it will be a great way for some of our members to get great practical experience!
    • MCC faculty advisors Susan Seymour and Nancy Wilson gave members a suggested schedule of Advertising and Marketing Communications classes for transfer students to take, and a list of classes with will likely be offered this spring, followed by a question and answer session.
    • A question and answer session was held about portfolio review, comming up this October. Students are suggested to bring their best work (8-15 peices) from their core Advertising and Marketing Communications classes. Work from other schools, courses or internships is also encouraged, but it should not comprise more than 20% of a student's portfolio. Work should be presented in a professional manner, and a two-page written statement about the student's career goals and a list of courses taken should be turned in a week before the portfolio review.
    • MCC President Mindy Hampton invited club members to study or hang out in the MCC offices between classes. The offices are located on the upper level of the University Center.
  • Guest Speaker -- J.C. Cody, September 16, 1999

    • James Walsh was elected MCC Secretary/Webmaster and Mark was elected MCC Historian.
    • J.C. Cody, Vice President and Creative Director at Glennon spoke about working in the creative area of an advertising agency. Here's his list of "Ten Commandments of Presentations" for presentations of creative work:
      1. Thou Shall Explain "When We Last Met."
      2. Thou Shall Let the Audience Know What's Comming (Sort of).
      3. Thou Shall Not Down-Sell Your Own Work.
      4. Thou Shall Shut Up.
      5. Thou Shall Only Have Positive Thoughts.
      6. Turn No Work Over Until You're Ready.
      7. Thou Shall Learn to Listen & Listen to Learn.
      8. Thou Shall Rehearse, Rehearse, Rehearse.
      9. Thou Shall Defend, Not Become Defensive.
      10. Realize It Can All Go to Shit
  • Welcome Back, September 2, 1999
    • Everyone is invited to contribute suggestions for MCC activities this semester, such as guest speakers or possible field trips.
    • The MCC plans to visit advertising agencies in Chicago this spring.
    • Discussed possible activites for Homecoming booth (first prize is $200)
